“IS THIS TOO MUCH INFORMATION?”

"I Know This Might Be Too Much Information..."

We hear this sentence almost every single day as pelvic health physiotherapists.

"This might be TMI..."
"Sorry if this is too much information..."
"I've never told anyone this before..."

Our honest response?

There is no such thing as too much information in a pelvic health physiotherapy appointment. In fact, sometimes it's the detail you almost didn't mention that helps everything finally make sense.

Your story matters.

As pelvic health physiotherapists, we're trained to look at the whole picture—not just one symptom.

You might come in because you're leaking when you run, but then mention you have a stubborn cesarean scar from eight years ago. Or perhaps you're having pain with intimacy, and halfway through the conversation you remember you've struggled with constipation for years. Maybe you're experiencing low back pain, urinary urgency, tailbone pain, painful periods, digestive issues, pelvic pressure, or something that you just can't quite put your finger on.

On their own, these symptoms can feel completely unrelated. Together, they often tell a much bigger story. The body is beautifully connected, and what feels like a random detail to you might actually be an important piece of the puzzle for us.

You don't need to edit yourself.

One of the hardest parts of a first appointment is deciding what to leave out.

Should you mention that symptom that only happens once a month? Does it matter that you had abdominal surgery years ago? Should you tell us about that strange sensation you've never been able to describe?

Yes. Tell us all of it.

You don't need to organize your thoughts or figure out what's important before you arrive. That's our job. Your job is simply to tell your story, however it comes out. We'll help connect the dots together.

We've heard it before.

Pelvic health can feel incredibly personal... because it is.

It involves conversations about bladder habits, bowel movements, intimacy, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, menopause, prolapse, pain, leaking, gas, constipation, and so many other things that society has taught us to keep "private."

We completely understand why those conversations can feel awkward. But we also want you to know this: there is very little you could say that would surprise us.

This is the field we chose because we're passionate about helping people through these exact concerns. These are conversations we have every single day. There is no embarrassment, no judgment, and absolutely no gold star for "keeping it together."

Your information is always protected.

Everything you share during your appointment is confidential and protected, just like any other healthcare visit.

Our treatment rooms are meant to be safe spaces where you can speak openly, ask questions, laugh when it feels right, cry when you need to, and know that your story stays between you and your healthcare team.

You are always in control.

Sharing your story doesn't mean you have to do anything you're uncomfortable with. You are always in charge of your appointment.

We'll explain why we're asking questions, discuss our recommendations, and ask for your consent every step of the way. You can ask questions, decline any part of the assessment or treatment, or simply let us know if you need a break.

Our goal isn't to rush or overwhelm you. It's simply to meet you where you are.

So… is it TMI?

Nope. Never. Not even a little.

Whether you've been carrying your symptoms for six weeks or sixteen years, whether you've told ten people or no one at all, we're honoured that you've trusted us with your story.

Because the more we understand you, the better we can help.

So if you find yourself saying,

"This might be too much information..."

Take a breath. We promise—it probably isn't. In fact, it might just be the missing piece we've been looking for. And we're really glad you told us.

Warmly, Your Spire Pelvic Health Team
