  • We always encourage you to wear clothing that allows you to move freely and comfortably. If there is an area of the body that requires assessment or treatment, wearing a garment that allows easy access to the area is ideal.

    Here are some examples:

    • Bring shorts for knees/ankles
    • Bring sleeveless tops for shoulders

Forgot your gym clothes? No problem, we’ve got you covered - just ask our team for a spare set of shorts or top to change into.

  • Our goal during this 60-minute appointment is to improve function, decrease pain, increase strength and build resilience. We strive to understand the “what” and uncover the “why” of our patients’ injury or entrance complaint with an in-depth assessment. Our patient-centred approach to treatment is built on education, hands on treatment as well as patient involvement through exercise and movement. These prescribed programs are designed to be simple and reproducible for home use. After an assessment appointment, choose from a variety of follow up appointment lengths to meet individual treatment needs. Our physiotherapy services aim to prevent injuries from holding back aspects of life that bring you joy.

  • This is a guided 90-minute comprehensive appointment with Spire’s Team of Pelvic Health trained Physiotherapists who provide a functional and whole-body approach to pelvic floor rehabilitation. The pelvic floor musculature is one part of a larger system and we pride ourselves on not only treating this muscle group but its integration with the body as a whole. Our Pelvic Health Therapists are certified to perform internal examinations, which includes the ability to assess vaginally or rectally if required. Not all assessment and treatment require an internal component if it is not within the patient’s comfort. As an alternative, there are many external treatment approaches that can help address pelvic floor related concerns. Each visit will include patient specific education, internal and/or external hands-on treatment, as well as exercise guidance. We are prepared to address all the difficult subjects that encompass pelvic health in a safe, supportive and motivating environment.

  • Simple answers:

    - If it is a new injury or a new area of the body, always book a new assessment! This allow your treating therapist time to complete a thorough assessment and treatment plan for you. We never want to rush you or your care.

    - If you are returning for an injury you have been seeing a Spire therapist for in the past and it has been greater than 3 months, please book a new assessment.

    - If you are returning for a pelvic health physiotherapy appointment if you have seen a therapist for in the past, if it has been greater than 6 months, please book a new assessment.

If you are unsure about what type of appointment you should book - give us a call! We would love to hear from you and help chose the appropriate treatment.

  • Absolutely! We are all about accessible wellness. If childcare is a barrier, we are here to smash it down. Our team is always there to help with open (and playful) arms!

  • Same tool, different goal!

Acupuncture treatment involves inserting fine monofilament needles into various and specific areas of the body referred to as acupuncture points. The goal of acupuncture is to stimulate the release of endorphins which are the body’s natural pain-relieving neuro-hormones. Acupuncture affects the body’s natural healing abilities by promoting a decrease in inflammation and increase in circulation, therefore supporting a reduction of pain and improved function. Acupuncture practice comes from centuries of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the World Health Organization supports its use as a reliable therapy for multiple conditions.

Functional Dry Needling® involves repeatedly stimulating a fine monofilament needle in a muscle in order to release shortened bands of muscles and decrease trigger point activity. This may help resolve pain and muscle tension and improve function. This treatment is different from traditional Chinese Acupuncture and requires specific certification, medical diagnoses and skilled palpation for efficacy.

  • Good one! Based on our therapists’ individualized training, the first step is to have a detailed discussion with your prenatal healthcare team (Family Physician, Obestrician, Gynecologist, Midwifery etc.)

Once the risks and benefits have been discussed with your entire team, acupuncture can be safely performed by a practitioner with appropriate prenatal training. As our therapists do not have the ability to perform acupuncture on the pregnant population, we have a list of teammates we refer to and collaborate with. If you are interested in learning more about prenatal acupuncture, reach out to are friends at @familyacupuncturewellness

Dry needling can be performed by our therapists in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy with the appropriate screening. We recommend expressing your interest with our therapists certified in dry needling to see if it is an option for you.

  • Generally, your therapist will have already screened for any reason acupuncture may not be appropriate on the day of your treatment.

    We recommend the following:

    • Drink lots of water before and after your acupuncture appointment.
    • Ensure you have eaten a well balanced meal before and after your acupuncture treatment.
    • Limit excessive caffeine intake (some is okay!).
    • Discuss your exercise plan for the rest of the day with your therapist.
    • Let your therapist know if your health status or medications have changed since your last discussion about acupuncture.
    • Wear or bring clothing that is loose fitting and allows for access of the treatment area.
    • Reading, signing and discussing the digital Spire acupuncture consent form with your therapist.

Lastly, we recommend you relax and enjoy the treatment!

  • In a clinic setting? Not much at all! Any member of the Spire Team Therapists will perform a comprehensive assessment and treatment, providing you with a personalized rehabilitation plan.

Some insurance plans provide separate insurance coverage for Athletic Therapy and Physiotherapy. We always recommend that to check your insurance policy before booking to ensure there are no surprises upon your first visit.

  • Our post-operative patients can book as soon as they feel ready! Depending on the location of the surgery, we see patients anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks post-operatively for their first visit. We recommend booking the initial assessment when pain is well managed, there is no nausea from the post-opeartive medication and the patient can tolerate light activity.

Patients do not have to wait for staples to be removed! When in doubt, give us a call and we would be happy to connect you with one of our therapists to discuss your individual care plan.

  • Not always!

Spire’s Team of Pelvic Health trained Physiotherapists provide a functional and whole-body approach to pelvic floor rehabilitation. Our Pelvic Health Therapists are certified to perform internal examinations, which includes the ability to assess vaginally or rectally if required. Not all assessment and treatment require an internal component if it is not within the patient’s comfort level. As an alternative, there are many external treatment approaches that can help address pelvic floor related concerns. • We recommend waiting until approximately 6-8 weeks postpartum and after you have had your medical follow up with your delivery team. The rationale behind this recommendation is that there is a great deal of healing your body requires and carries out on its own during this period (the human body is truly remarkable and a wonderful self-repair system). It is important to note that many concerns do spontaneously improve during this timeframe.

Additionally, after this timeframe we may begin working on scar mobility and introduction/progression into movement (our favourite). The most important note of all, though 6-8 weeks is our recommendation, we are always here and happy to discuss questions or concerns you may have along the way.

Email, call or stop in for an early appointment if you need support, do not wait. We can and will see new parents days after delivery if required for care.

  • Yes! Here’s why: Pelvic Floor dysfunction can be less obvious then you may think. It is a common misconception that c-sections avoid injuries to the pelvic floor, which isn’t always true!

It is also important to note that a pelvic floor assessment does not necessarily mean internal exam. We use the extended appointment to allow time to screen and discuss your pelvic floor in a private setting and to leave adequate time for you to share your birth story and experience.

When booking your first postpartum appointment (for new or returning clients) remember to book a ‘Pelvic Floor Initial Assessment & Treatment’ for your first time back! We appreciate the extra time with you (and the extra moments with your little loved one if you bring them along).

  • If we limited your pelvic health appointments to 3/4 of your schedule, that would be completely unfair! Please know that we welcome you to attend during any point of your cycle.

Treatment options can be catered to your comfort level.

  • Simply put, it’s exceptional.

We could not imagine having better neighbours Empty Cup Collective! This team knows us by name (some by order!) and keeps our staff bright and energetic for the day, the atmosphere you deserve in your treatment journey!

  • “The highest point or summit of a structure” a common example given is the continuation of a tree trunk above the point where branching begins.
