YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR IMAGING

Have you had imaging that indicated arthritic or degenerative changes in a joint?

While medical imaging (MRI scans, ×-rays, CT scans) may be necessary to rule in or out serious medical conditions, they are often not required to begin your rehabilitation journey. In many circumstances, referrals are made to physiotherapists and athletic therapists with the goal of creating an individualized treatment plan while you wait for imaging. This is because these scans are not actually a great indicator of the reason for your pain. In fact, studies show that findings of degeneration (arthritic changes) are "present in high proportions of asymptomatic individuals". To translate, degenerative changes found on imaging can be deemed a normal part of the aging process and do not necessarily correlate with the amount of pain that a person is in. Surprising, right?

So, you have pain and have been told you have arthritis or maybe you are waiting on imaging and living with pain. Now what? Our team of therapists will take you through an in depth assessment to determine the most likely cause of your pain. We will create a plan based on these findings that will help improve your movement, manage your pain, increase your strength, and ease effort with every day activities. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our team if you are looking for support around your pain or imaging results!
